WHAT IS PILATES?

It all started when...

Joseph Pilates, a German immigrant to the United States developed and established a physical fitness system in New York City. Joe initially started his exercise system while serving as a nurse during the First World War. His intentions were to improve the rehabilitation program for the injured. During this period, Pilates was designed to aid those injured soldiers in regaining their health by strengthening, stretching, and stabilizing key muscles.

Pilates sessions today build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine, rather than on developing bulky and shortened muscles. The focus is on controlled strength rather than power or speed.

WHAT IS REDCORD SUSPENSION TRAINING?

REDcord suspension creates fun and challenging exercises for physical rehabilitation and sports performance enhancement. Each exercise demands total body awareness and accurate muscle control to help you build a lasting core foundation and a stable body in less time than conventional training methods. Kåre Mosberg, a former gymnast, was the inventor of the patented device. Brothers Petter and Tore Plankeormer were responsible for the mass marketing and international sales of the equipment. REDcord training continues to grow and develop here in the United States. Book a session at Classic Pilates Studio.  There are other types of suspension training systems such as the popular TRX.
